Blake Griffin reportedly in line for major post-retirement job

After his fairly lowkey exit from the game of basketball, Blake Griffin may be coming back in a big way.

Michael McCarthy of Front Office Sports reported Tuesday that the retired former All-Star big man Griffin has become a sought-after free agent among the NBA’s next group of television partners. Griffin is reportedly in talks with Amazon Prime Video to potentially become “the face” of their NBA coverage starting in the 2025-26 NBA season. On top of that, Griffin is drawing interest from both NBC Sports and ESPN too, McCarthy adds.

Griffin, still only 35, was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2009 NBA Draft and was at one point the most exciting star in basketball with his high-flying play. He was a six-time All-Star and five-time All-NBA selection over the course of his career but had his prime cut short by an array of lower-body injuries that sapped him of his athleticism. After spending the 2022-23 season warming the bench for the Boston Celtics, Griffin sat out the entire 2023-24 season and then officially announced his retirement in Apr. 2024.

When it comes to television, Griffin has made cameo appearances on a few shows over the years and also hosted his own short-lived hidden-camera show “Double Cross with Blake Griffin” on TruTV in 2021. Griffin has also showed off some pretty strong stand-up comedy chops in the past, and he apparently fits the profile of what a few major television networks are looking for when it comes to anchoring their NBA game coverage.
