Bradley Beal critical of Wizards’ recent team meeting

A recent team meeting by the slumping Washington Wizards may have actually created more problems than it solved.

In a feature by the Washington Post’s Candace Buckner that ran on Sunday, Wizards shooting guard Bradley Beal was critical of a players-only meeting that the team held not too long ago.

“It was tough. I try to keep all our stuff as personal as possible but I think in a way not everybody got a chance to speak whenever they wanted to,” Beal said. “They didn’t want to bring up an issue or something they had a problem with on the team. Regardless of what may be going on, as men we’ve got to be able to accept what the next man says, be respectful about it and move on from it.

“I think it was one of those situations where we didn’t necessarily get everything that we wanted to get accomplished,” the former No. 3 overall pick added. “Honestly, it was probably — I won’t say pointless. But we didn’t accomplish what we needed to accomplish in that meeting.”

At 26-20 on the year, the Wizards are still fifth in the East. But they are just 5-4 in the month of January, and a 24-point loss to Charlotte on Wednesday was only the latest in a slew of defeats to sub-.500 teams this season.

We have heard other indications of internal friction coming out of Washington in recent weeks, and it has to be concerning that the team still has a number of unresolved issues with less than three months to go in the regular season.
