Caitlin Clark is finally confirming what most had been fearing for some time now.

The Indiana Fever superstar guard Clark announced in a social media post Thursday that she will not be returning this season. Clark, who last played in mid-July, said that her injury situation has been “incredibly frustrating” but expressed gratitude for the support that she has received and said that she was very proud of her Fever teammates.

You can read Clark’s full post here.

I had hoped to share a better update, but I will not be returning to play this season. I spent hours in the gym every day with the singular goal of getting back out there, disappointed isn’t a big enough word to describe how I am feeling. I want to thank everyone who had my back… pic.twitter.com/paD5sEYG1q

Clark, 23, only appeared in 13 total games for the Fever this season. She initially missed time due to a quad strain, sat out a month with that injury, and then suffered a groin injury that ultimately ended her season. Clark last played for Indiana on July 15 and later suffered a separate injury during a workout while rehabbing her groin.

But the Fever, who won the 2025 Commissioner’s Cup earlier this season, are still very much in the playoff race. Even without Clark over the last couple of months, they have managed to go 21-20 overall, which is good for the eighth and final WNBA playoff spot. They do need to hold off the Los Angeles Sparks behind them though (with the Sparks sitting 1.5 games back at 19-21 with four games left to play).

Indiana has endured a real nightmare season when it comes to injuries with Aari McDonald (foot), Sydney Colson (ACL), and Sophie Cunningham (knee) all out for the year as well. Now Clark is joining the Fever’s list of season-enders as well and officially finishes her sophomore WNBA season with averages of 16.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 8.8 assists per game on 37/28/82 shooting splits.
