Carlos Boozer to be amnestied by Bulls

Carlos BoozerThe Chicago Bulls plan to waive Carlos Boozer via the amnesty provision, according to a report.

The Bulls first tried to shop Boozer to see if they could find any takers in a potential sign-and-trade deal, but they were unsuccessful, the Chicago Sun-Times reports. The Sun-Times says the team informed Boozer’s camp that they have plans to release him.

The Bulls have been one of the most active teams in free agency. They were the first ones to host Carmelo Anthony, and they also are in the mix for Pau Gasol.

The Sun-Times says the Bulls have checked on Lance Stephenson and that they are interested in Trevor Ariza in case they are unable to sign ‘Melo, who reportedly is still likely to return to the Knicks.

Boozer will still be paid the $16.8 million he is owed next season, but it will not count against the Bulls’ salary cap.
