There have been some rumors about the Cleveland Cavaliers potentially making moves this offseason that would break apart key pieces of their team. One report even talked about Darius Garland potentially forcing a trade. Some reports even suggested the Spurs would have interest in Garland if he were available. But it doesn’t sound like he will be — at least not yet.

ESPN NBA reporter Brian Windhorst appeared on 850 ESPN Cleveland Tuesday and said teams are backing off a pursuit of Garland, feeling he is not available.

Indeed, Cavs team president Koby Altman said in late May that he believes in the backcourt combination of Garland and Donovan Mitchell.

The Cavs drafted Garland in 2019 and have had him for five seasons. But they’ve only had Mitchell for two seasons since acquiring him in a trade with the Utah Jazz. It’s still early in the pairing of the two players, and they’ve had successful regular seasons in both years. Now it’s about the Cavs trying to advance farther in the playoffs while keeping their core together.
