Joe Mazzulla had stirring message after Celtics’ Game 3 win vs. Knicks

Boston Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla has never been afraid to wax poetic while speaking to the media. He gave fans another great quote on Saturday.

The Celtics were in a 0-2 hole entering Game 3 of their Eastern Conference semifinal series against the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden in New York City, N.Y. After back-to-back collapses in Games 1 and 2, the Celtics dominated the Knicks from start to finish in front of a hostile crowd at MSG.

Boston never trailed in the 115-93 contest. The visitors led by as many as 31 points and never let New York get any kind of momentum for a comeback.

The Celtics head coach shared his perspective on the topsy-turvy series as he spoke to reporters after Game 3.

Mazzulla: “This is the fun part. You don’t get into the journey for it to be easy. It’s been dark, but in a good way.”

Reporter: “Dark how though? Like, what does that mean?”

Mazzulla: “You’ve got to tap into your darkness. That’s it.”

With the threat of a series upset looming over Mazzulla and his team, there has been added speculation about the Celtics breaking up the roster in the offseason.

Boston’s championship-winning core will continue to get more expensive as the seasons go by. A potential second-round exit would make it even harder to justify paying the exorbitant luxury tax bill that will soon come due. The Celtics were able to stave off that issue for at least one game.
