Chris Bosh is apparently lucky to be alive after his health scare earlier this year.
The retired Basketball Hall of Famer Bosh was interviewed this week by Sam Yip of HoopsHype. During the interview, Bosh opened up about his health incident in January and revealed that he had another pulmonary embolism that nearly killed him.
“I had an episode in January,” said Bosh. “I almost dropped dead pretty much and came back to life. I’m not joking. I had another pulmonary embolism. It was in January. I was in the hospital for a week.
“I’m taking my medicine every day, taking care of myself every day, and watching it,” added Bosh. “So, I mean, no symptoms came either, you know, so. You got to deal with it for the rest of your life. I thought I was past it. I am not. So, you know, it’s just making sure I stay on top of my regimen.
Now 42 years old, Bosh first spoke about his health scare last February. He revealed that he suddenly fainted and woke up covered in blood after experiencing a numbing sensation in his leg (read the full details here).
Bosh played in the NBA from 2003-16, making 11 All-Star teams and winning two championships with the Miami Heat in 2012 and 2013. But his playing career was cut short due to a blood clotting condition that persisted through multiple failed comeback attempts.
For Bosh, who was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2021, he suffered his first documented blood clot in Feb. 2015 (resulting in a pulmonary embolism) and his second one in Feb. 2016. Now Bosh’s latest pulmonary embolism is serving as a frightening reminder that his condition still needs to be actively managed, even a full decade after his last NBA game.
