Veteran guard Chris Paul on Thursday dropped an interesting hint about where his NBA future might be.

Paul appeared on “The Pat McAfee Show” and discussed the factors that are influencing his thinking as to where he might play next season. The veteran guard made clear that he still wants to play, but that he also has to take his family into consideration.

“I talked to my family about it. My son just turned 16, my daughter’s 12. The past six seasons, I’ve lived without them,” Paul said. “I’ve been away from them for the last six years. It’s a little different. That’s the conversation.

“I want to be dad. I still love to play. … My daughter actually hoops now. Before I flew out here, I was in the gym with her for 20 minutes. 20 minutes doing ballhandling with her, and it was priceless. You don’t get that time back.”

Chris Paul:

It sounds like Paul wants to play, but would like the opportunity to do so while remaining close to his children. His family still lives in Los Angeles, which could be enough to spark some rumors.

Paul has said in the past that he still loves the game and feels that he can play, but would only make a final decision after consulting his family. The 40-year-old spent last season with the San Antonio Spurs, where he averaged 8.8 points and 7.4 assists per game while starting all 82 games.

Paul is set to become a free agent this summer. He has been linked to one West Coast franchise, but it remains to be seen how far from home he would be willing to go if he does continue playing.
