Chris Webber goes off on Doug Gottlieb when asked about Jalen Rose
Chris Webber has no interest in discussing his relationship with Jalen Rose.
In an interview with Doug Gottlieb on CBS Sports Radio Thursday, Webber was more than happy to discuss the course he is going to be teaching at Wake Forest next year on sports, culture and business. But when Gottlieb asked a question about Rose, there was a long pause followed by a very angry C-Webb.
“I mean, Doug, we ain’t talking about that,” Webber said. “You ain’t getting that interview. I’m talking about Wake Forest. I don’t talk about him. I talked about him one time on The Dan Patrick show. That was it.”
Webber was referring to the interview earlier this year when he made it clear that he was upset with the way Rose went about making the “Fab Five” documentary. Rose later fired back with some explosive comments in an interview with LBS.
When Gottlieb tried to defend asking Webber the question, the former NBA star seemed to get increasingly annoyed.
“Come on, Doug,” he said. “I just told you respectfully on your show I’m not going to talk about it. I’m talking about being a professor at Wake Forest teaching a class on culture in sports. Now do want want to beat me up because I did not answer you on your show?
“I don’t want to answer the question. So what would you ask me after that? Because I’m going to put this in for my class as far as how did you handle the media. I’m going to show them right now: I do not want to answer that question. I respectfully ask you not to ask me that again so you can blow your numbers up for your show. I don’t want to talk about that, Doug.”
If you were wondering if Webber and Rose had buried the hatchet, that should tell you everything you need to know. Rose has said in the past that he thinks Webber should apologize to Michigan for taking money from a booster and lying about it. Webber clearly isn’t ready to do that.
