Jamal Murray dropped 53 points on Cooper Flagg and the Dallas Mavericks on Wednesday, but his stat line wasn’t even the best of the night. That belongs to Nikola Jokic, who stuffed the stat sheets with a triple-double.
An absurd triple-double.
Jokic helped the Nuggets to a 142-135 win over Dallas at Ball Arena in Denver, Colo., with 23 points, 21 rebounds and 19 assists in 38 minutes. He came just an assist short of a 20-20-20 triple-double, leaving Flagg wondering if he would be as great as the Serbian one day.
“I can learn a lot from him and the way he’s able to read the game. But I don’t know if I would be somebody that can get to that level,” Flagg said in the locker room, via DNVR Nuggets.
“I mean, it was incredible just the way he was able to impact the game. And at some points, it feels like he’s not even trying out there. He ended up with 20/20/20. I mean, he’s incredible and it’s just crazy to be a part of that out there and the way he’s able to just affect the game, added the former Duke Blue Devils star.
Flagg wasn’t too shabby either, as he came up with 26 points on an efficient 10/18 shooting with 15 boards in 36 minutes.
It’s too early to tell if he’ll ever reach Jokic’s level of statistical greatness, but the promise is surely there for the Mavs rookie.
