Stacey King’s official cause of death is emerging this week.
The Chicago Bulls icon King died from hypertensive cardiovascular disease, Edward Lewis of The California Post reported this week. Citing a spokesperson for the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office, Lewis adds that King’s condition was caused by long-term high-blood pressure (with obesity also reportedly serving as a contributing factor in King’s death).
King died on June 7 at the age of 59. He was reportedly found dead at his home in River Forest, Ill.
Several weeks ago, we learned some details about King’s death, including that he had suffered a fall at his home. Now the official cause of death from the local Medical Examiner’s Office has been disclosed.
Listed at 6-foot-11 and 230 pounds during his playing career, King played in the NBA for eight total seasons from 1989-97. King enjoyed his greatest success with the Bulls, winning three straight championships with them from 1991-93 while averaging 6.6 points and 3.3 rebounds per game overall in Chicago.
After retiring as a player, King went into a 20-year career as a television broadcaster for the Bulls. He became a beloved figure for his animated and energetic calls on the air, and fans are already missing his iconic voice over Chicago highlights.
