DeMarcus Cousins to schedule surgery after testing confirms torn ACL

DeMarcus Cousins

The injury news on DeMarcus Cousins is exactly what he and the Los Angeles Lakers feared.

Testing conducted on Thursday confirmed that Cousins suffered a torn ACL, the big man’s agent told ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. Woj says they are looking to schedule a surgery.

Cousins continues to suffer injury after injury. He first suffered a torn Achilles tendon on January 26, 2018, which caused his free agent market to crater. He signed a one-year deal with the Golden State Warriors and did not make his season debut until mid-January. Then he suffered a torn quad muscle in the first round of the playoffs and did not return until the NBA Finals.

Cousins took a one-year deal with the Lakers this offseason for just over the minimum. He was slimming down to put less strain on his body, but even that didn’t help him avoid another serious injury.

This is a devastating blow for the 29-year-old’s career. Torn ACLs can typically take 8-12 months to recover, if not longer, which puts Boogie’s chances of playing this season in jeopardy.
