The Dallas Mavericks’ big draft-day trade has already been met with approval from one of their key players.
Dennis Smith Jr., who was the No. 9 pick in the 2017 draft, said on Twitter after the Luka Doncic trade that he’s “a fan.”

The Mavericks held the No. 5 pick in the draft and agreed to a trade with Atlanta. They got Doncic from the Hawks for Trae Young (whom they selected at No. 5) and a future first-round pick.
Smith averaged 15.2 points and 5.2 assists per game as a rookie last season and was widely viewed as one of the better picks of the draft. Dallas is rebuilding and preparing to hand the torch over from Dirk Nowitzki to their new stars. Doncic and Smith will be some excellent rebuilding blocks.
