Chris Finch appears to be making very good progress after his recent injury.

The Minnesota Timberwolves head coach Finch had surgery on Wednesday after suffering a torn patellar tendon on a collision with Minnesota guard Mike Conley during a playoff game last Sunday (video here). On Thursday, just a day after his surgery, Finch was back in attendance at team practice.

Alec Ausmus of KSTP in Minnesota shared footage of Finch on crutches, watching practice from a distance.

Timberwolves assistant coach Micah Nori, who took over the head coaching duties on Sunday after Finch was hurt, had said on Wednesday that Finch would not travel with the team but that plan was for him to be in Denver.

Assistant coach Micah Nori met with the media today & said Chris Finch is “out of surgery, it went well. His spirits are remarkably high.”

Minnesota begins their second-round playoff series against the Denver Nuggets on May 4, and the first two games will be played in Denver.

Finch, 54, is in his third full season as head coach of the Timberwolves and finished third in Coach of the Year voting this season after leading the team to a 56-win campaign. Hopefully, Finch feels well enough to coach in the Denver series from a stool like this fellow basketball coach once did.
