Gilbert Arenas offers scathing assessment of the NBA Finals

Former NBA All-Star Gilbert Arenas offered a scathing assessment of the 2025 NBA Finals on Monday.

In an appearance on “The Dan Patrick Show” Monday, Arenas predicted that fans will remember “nothing” from the series between the Indiana Pacers and Oklahoma City Thunder. Arenas blamed the small-market nature of the Finals, as well as the lack of memorable individual moments, for that outcome.

“Nothing. Let’s just be honest,” Arenas said. “When it comes to small-market teams, we really don’t remember much about them. We don’t really talk about the Toronto championship. We don’t really talk about the Bucks-Giannis championship. With this one, the only memorable thing was (Tyrese Haliburton’s) game winner, Game 1. Other than that, there was nothing in this Finals that makes you say ‘Oh my God, this was a great Finals.’”

The Finals did go seven games, which should in theory be quite memorable. However, many will agree with Arenas that it lacked signature moments.

It also does not help that Game 7 will inevitably be overshadowed by Haliburton’s injury and what could have been. That might end up being the most memorable moment of the series, though it had a huge negative impact on the Pacers.

Thunder fans certainly will not forget this series anytime soon. Other fans might move on pretty quickly, though.
