San Antonio Spurs coach Gregg Popovich has been one of President Donald Trump’s biggest critics in the sports world, and he did not hold back Monday when asked about Trump’s latest comments.

Asked to weigh in on Trump’s comments about NFL players and his non-invitation to the Golden State Warriors, Popovich did not mince words about what he thought, calling his actions “comical” and saying he has made the country an “embarrassment.”

Pop referred to “childishness” and “gratuitous fear-mongering” when asked about sports and politics.

Pop: “I think these ppl have been enabled by an example we’ve been given, you’ve seen it in Charlottesville.”

— Melissa Rohlin (@melissarohlin) September 25, 2017

Pop: “Our country is an embarrassment to the world.”

— Melissa Rohlin (@melissarohlin) September 25, 2017

Pop: “The discussion has to take place…Race is obviously the elephant in the room…Ppl have to be made to feel uncomfortable.”

— Melissa Rohlin (@melissarohlin) September 25, 2017

Pop: “Bc you were born white you have advantages…Many people can’t look at it, it’s too difficult.”

— Melissa Rohlin (@melissarohlin) September 25, 2017

Pop on Warriors invite: “I thought it was comical it was rescinded bc they weren’t going to go anyway.” Called it “disgusting”& “comical.”

Popovich also said the Spurs would fully support any player who wished to protest or speak out against Trump or racial injustice.

Pop: “Each 1 of them has the right and ability to say what they’d like to say and act the way they like to act. They have our full support”

Popovich has not been afraid to criticize Trump before. With sports and politics colliding, it’s no surprise that he would pull no punches here.
