Gregg Popovich ended strange postgame presser with 5-word message

The San Antonio Spurs played one of their best games of the season on Thursday night, and head coach Gregg Popovich was thrilled about it. Or was he?

The Spurs fell to 5-29 with their 125-121 loss to the Milwaukee Bucks. Victor Wembanyama was outstanding while going toe-to-toe with Giannis Antetokounmpo, but a few bounces and calls down the stretch did not go San Antonio’s way.

Popovich had no interest in speaking with the media for very long after the game. He didn’t even bother to sit down for his press conference but praised the Spurs for doing “a lot of great things” and said he was ready to leave “unless you have a question that makes sense.”

Pop also said he was unhappy with a call that went against the Spurs late. When a reporter began to ask about Wembanyama’s performance, Popovich said he loved it and that there was “nothing he didn’t love about any of them.” He then abruptly ended the press conference and told reporters “see you at the bar.”

It is never easy to figure out what Popovich is thinking. Our guess is he was being sarcastic. He probably did not feel like answering a bunch of questions about how well his team played in a loss, especially since the Spurs have just five wins on the year.

The Spurs obviously have a long way to go before they become a playoff contender. Plays like the awesome self-oop we saw from Wembanyama make for great highlights, but Popovich wants to win.
