Philadelphia 76ers rookie Jahlil Okafor has found himself involved in more than one off-court incident since he was drafted earlier this year, and the details from one of them are quite terrifying.
According to an incident report obtained by TMZ, Okafor had a gun pointed at his head outside a nightclub in October. Previous unconfirmed reports indicated that Okafor had a gun drawn on him by a heckler, and TMZ was able to confirm some of the details.
According to the report, officers noticed Okafor “stumbling” down the street and seemingly intoxicated outside a Philadelphia nightclub. From the sound of it, things escalated in a hurry. Here’s more:
The officers say the guys began to yell at each other — and at one point, Okafor broke away from the group and started to bang on the back of a black Chevy Camaro.
Cops say they witnessed the driver of the car get out and strike Okafor — causing him to fall in the street.
A witness had previously told CSNPhilly that Okafor punched the driver of the car through an open driver’s side window — but the officers made no mention of that in their report.
After Okarfor was knocked to the ground, cops say a 2nd man approached the NBA star and pointed a gun at him.
An officer intervened, drawing his own weapon and telling the man with the gun to drop his. The suspect reportedly ran away and ditched the gun, which was recovered by police the next day. No arrests have been made.
It’s no wonder the 76ers want a security guard to be with Okafor when he goes out. The 19-year-old has already developed a bad habit of putting himself in dangerous situations, and the videos of him fighting in the streets of Boston were a pretty terrible look. Okafor needs to focus more on basketball and less on partying.
