Report: Jazz may try to sign George Hill to extension this season

The Utah Jazz appear to be liking what they’re seeing so far out of their new starting point guard.

According to a report by Tim MacMahon of ESPN on Thursday, the Jazz see veteran George Hill as a long-term fit and may try to sign him to a contract extension this season.

“If that’s the case, then I would be very interested in that,” Hill said. “But I’m going to let them take care of that and just do what I can control.

“I’m not the type of guy that likes to move around and go from team to team,” he continued. “I really like it here [in Utah]. My family likes it here. I’ve got some friends here. The city’s been great for me so far, and it’s a nice place to raise a family, so hopefully I get an opportunity to re-sign here if they would love me to be here.”

The 30-year-old Hill, who is making $8 million in the final year of his contract this season and would become a free agent this summer should no extension be reached, is averaging 21.4 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 4.6 assists per game through his first five contests with the Jazz.

Utah may not have viewed Hill as a mere rental when they acquired him from the Indiana Pacers last June, but they will have a decision to make about what direction they want to go with the point guard position with talented 21-year-old Dante Exum also waiting in the wings behind Hill.
