The Boston Celtics may have trotted out the big guns for Kevin Durant, but the Golden State Warriors may well have had the best recruiter of all in Jerry West.
A Warriors source told Marc J. Spears of The Undefeated that West was a big factor in bringing Durant to Golden State, along with assurances that the team would view him on equal footing.
So what was the key to KD? One prominent Warriors organization member: "Jerry West. Everyone telling him he'd be on equal footing. No stars"

It’s worth noting that West played in 9 NBA Finals and lost 8 of them. You can bet that he brought that up to Durant when the two spoke about what moving to Golden State could mean for his ring totals.
As was reported, West and Durant spoke on Saturday. Durant apparently heeded West’s call, and the Warriors’ title odds shot up as a result. If KD is looking for rings, he’s probably made the right decision.
