June is turning out to be a big month for the Mazzulla brothers.
The Utah Jazz announced several basketball operations staff updates in a release on Friday. Among the updates was the news that Justin Mazzulla has been promoted to the Jazz video room as an assistant video coordinator. He had served this season as an assistant coach and video coordinator for the Salt Lake City Stars, G League affiliate of the Jazz.
Justin is the younger brother of Boston Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla. After a collegiate career where he played for both George Washington and Vermont, Justin became a graduate assistant at Rhode Island (the Mazzulla family hails from the state). He then joined the Jazz organization in 2023.
In his second season as the head coach of the Celtics, Joe has led them to the NBA Finals, where they are now up 1-0 over the Dallas Mavericks. Though Justin may have a long way to go to catch up to Joe personality-wise, he is clearly doing nicely for himself in his own corner of the NBA.
