Who better to get basketball wisdom from than the GOAT himself, Michael Jordan? Boston Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla has spent part of his summer getting advice from the six-time NBA champion Jordan and Phil Jackson, too, according to former Celtics forward Brian Scalabrine.
“He [Mazzulla] told them at the partners’ summit that he actually hung out with Michael Jordan and Phil Jackson this summer,” Scalabrine said during an appearance on The Starting Lineup show on SiriusXM NBA Radio.
“And Jordan told Joe that ‘the reason why I kept winning was I acted like I never won,'” Scalabrine continued.
“If you act as if you’ve never done anything, then you are hungry to continue to get it. And he goes, ‘Jordan was like that.’ That was his message to Joe.”
Jordan is known as much for his NBA rings and accolades as his legendary competitiveness and seemingly unquenchable thirst for success. It is one thing to win championships in the NBA, and another to sustain the burning desire for more, as Jordan did throughout his career.
Mazzulla and the Celtics are entering an interesting season. After winning 56 games in the 2025-26 campaign despite nearly having to go without Jayson Tatum for the entire season, Boston will look to succeed, this time without Jaylen Brown, who was traded to the Philadelphia 76ers during the offseason.
