Kevin Durant helped clear path for ambulance in traffic?

Not long after he helped the Oklahoma City Thunder advance to the Western Conference Finals by scoring a game-high 37 points on Thursday, Kevin Durant supposedly did something far more important for the community.

An EMSA paramedic told 9 News in Oklahoma that emergency personnel were trying to get through rush hour traffic in an ambulance over the weekend when they suddenly got an assist from the driver of a Ferrari.

“We were stuck in traffic, so pretty much cars surrounding us all over,” Peter Radford explained. “All of a sudden, I see a silver Ferrari or a silver sports car pull in behind us. “I see this Ferrari has it’s flashers on. It’s actually making way for us to get through and navigate all the traffic.”

It was Durant.

“Once we actually get through all the traffic, this silver Ferrari comes over to the side and waves to my partner,” Radford recalled. “And my partner goes ‘Do you have any idea who that is?’ And of course I’m clueless. ‘That’s Kevin Durant.’

“He waves to me. I just thought that was so cool that someone like Kevin Durant would take the time to assist this emergency vehicle getting to an emergency call.”

Radford said the paramedics were able to make it to that emergency and another call thanks to Durant’s assistance. He referred to Durant as a “hometown hero,” but Durant told a slightly different story.

“I saw the ambulance from behind me, and it was kind of slow in front of me, and I moved over,” the Thunder star said. “I said, ‘I’m just going to follow the ambulance so I can get through traffic real quick.’ So I moved over. I can’t take full credit for that.”

Wait, so was Durant trying to do something illegal to get through traffic and actually ended up assisting the emergency workers? Maybe the paramedic was just trying to butter him up given the rumors we have heard about where K.D. could end up next year. Or, that could have been Durant’s way of being modest. Hopefully it was the latter.
