Minnesota Timberwolves guard Kevin Martin hit a 3-pointer against the Chicago Bulls on Saturday night to give his team a two-point lead late in the fourth quarter. It was the type of moment that warrants a manly celebration, one that wound up costing Martin $15,000.
The NBA announced on Monday that Martin has been fined $15,000 for doing the “Big Ball Dance,” a move that was made popular in the NBA by Sam Cassell and originated in the movie “Major League.” Martin joked about the fine at his press conference.
Kevin Martin: "I'll bet you 15,000 dollars I know what the first question is going to be."

Ball Don’t Lie rounded up a list of other offenses that have resulted in a $15,000 fine from the league, including but not limited to verbally abusing referees and flopping four times in one season.
Nevertheless, the “Big Ball Dance” has been deemed an “obscene gesture.” In the words of Jerry Seinfeld, that’s a shame.
