Kevon Looney is returning to the Golden State Warriors.
Looney agreed to a 3-year, $15 million with the Dubs, his agent Todd Ramasar told Adrian Wojnarowski and Shams Charania. The two sides agreed to the deal after meeting in Los Angeles on Monday.
The Warriors are facing a hard cap for the upcoming season due to their sign-and-trade deal with Brooklyn involving D’Angelo Russell and Kevin Durant. Their signings of Klay Thompson and Russell to an extension, combined with the existing salaries of Steph Curry and Draymond Green, left the Warriors with very little room to build the rest of their roster. The idea of keeping Looney, however valuable to the team, seemed like it might not be possible. But the two sides got it done, and Golden State will likely have to fill out the rest of the roster with minimum contracts.
Looney has proved to be a valuable and versatile big man for the team. The 23-year-old center averaged 12.2 points and 10.1 rebounds per 36 minutes last season and played key minutes in the playoffs.
News of Looney’s signing comes after Jordan Bell agreed to a contract with Minnesota.
