Report: Knicks’ absence from restart boosting Tom Thibodeau pursuit

The New York Knicks are one of the eight teams that won’t be taking part in the NBA restart in Orlando, but it turns out that’s fine for them.

According to Marc Berman of the New York Post, the Knicks will get a significant benefit in their pursuit of Tom Thibodeau as head coach because they’re missing out on that restart. Other teams with interest in Thibodeau, such as the Houston Rockets and Brooklyn Nets, will be playing games until at least August, preventing them from getting going on their search.

Thibodeau would have interest in the Rockets job if and when Mike D’Antoni departs, according to Berman, but the lengthy wait likely rules them out as an option.

By all accounts, Thibodeau will be the next Knicks coach as long as he wants the job. Unless he wants to wait until August or September, it may well be his only option.
