Kobe Bryant was ‘furious’ with Lamar Odom for overdose

Kobe Bryant Lamar OdomMetta World Peace opened up about the Lamar Odom situation in a recent interview in which he shared his and Kobe Bryant’s reaction to hearing the news of their ex-teammate’s overdose at a brothel in Nevada.

Metta and Odom go way back to their days growing up in Queens, and they were later teammates for two seasons on the Lakers. Bryant and Odom were longtime Lakers teammates. Bryant and World Peace have a lot of love and support for Odom, so they had strong reactions to hearing the news that Odom was fighting for his life after overdosing.

“When Kobe found out Lamar was in the hospital, he was furious. I was in tears. It was right before a game,” World Peace recalled in an interview with Vlad TV posted on Monday.

World Peace was also asked about Master P’s comments that Bryant could have helped prevent Odom’s downturn by getting him a roster spot with the Lakers.

“Kobe has nothing to do with Lamar being in a brothel. You can’t blame Kobe for that. Kobe supports Lamar,” said World Peace.

“It’s not Kobe’s team; it’s Jim Buss’ team and Jeanie Buss, so they pick who’s on the Lakers, not Kobe. You can’t blame Kobe for what Lamar has done. Kobe has supported Lamar. Kobe FaceTimes Lamar. Kobe tried to reach out to Lamar plenty of times before this incident happened. I was reaching out to Lamar, and sometimes Lamar won’t text back. And we still support Lamar — that’s our boy. Through thick and thin, I support Lamar 100 percent. That’s our boy. Can’t nobody talk bad about him to me.”

Metta World Peace says he was initially bitter towards Odom’s LA friends and also the Kardashians about what happened, but he says he later realized that was misguided.

“He’s in the hospital. He’s alive. It’s a miracle from what I’ve heard. He’s tired and he’s resting.”

With his Lakers off, World Peace had plans to visit Odom in the hospital on Wednesday.

A report last month said Odom had 12 strokes and is having trouble with his motor skills, but he is slowly coming around. At a time when his dad and estranged wife are fighting, it’s nice to know he has the support of caring friends like Kobe and Metta.
