Kristaps Porzingis is out to prove that the New York Knicks knew what they were doing when they selected him No. 4 overall in the 2015 NBA draft.
The Knicks took the Latvian 7-footer believing that his versatile game will translate well in the NBA. So does Porzingis.
After being selected, Porzingis did an interview with ESPN and dispelled the notion that he is a stereotypical “soft” European player.
“For those people who don’t know me, they may think that I’m a soft European who likes basketball. There have been busts before. I’m different. I really love the game. I’m very hungry. I’m looking forward to playing in the best league in the world against the best players in the world. It’s my passion that sets me apart,” Porzingis says.
Knicks fans better hope he’s telling the truth. If it’s at all comforting, Porzingis drew rave reviews at his draft workout, where he was shooting like a champ.
