Kyrie Irving not considering contract extension with Celtics
Kyrie Irving says that he is not considering a contract extension with the Boston Celtics because it does not make financial sense.
Irving spoke with the media on Tuesday and answered several questions, including some about his contract status. The point guard is set to make just over $20 million next season and has a $21 million player option for the following year. He could opt out of his deal and become a free agent after next season.
For now, Irving says he is not considering a contract extension.
Kyrie Irving not considering an extension. "Contractually, financially, it just doesn’t make any sense.”
Kyrie ready for the daily barrage of future question but said focus is on 18-19 season.
"I’m pretty sure management and I will have a talk, but that talk won’t happen now."

There has been some recent chatter that Irving may want to leave Boston after next season, so these comments certainly won’t alleviate the concerns of Celtics fans.
The team had tremendous success in the postseason without him as he recovered from his knee problems. We know the reason he forced his way out of Cleveland is because he wanted to be the star of his own team. If things don’t work out to his liking in Boston next season, perhaps he will choose to leave.
