Lakers could pursue surprising reunion with former player?

LeBron James looking on

The Los Angeles Lakers are expected to be very busy in the buyout market, and that could involve a reunion with one surprising former player.

The Lakers could look to bring in Dennis Schroder as a backup point guard if he is bought out by the Houston Rockets, according to Jovan Buha of The Athletic. There is still some internal division over Schroder, but the Lakers are in need of a backup point guard and Schroder would fit the bill.

Schroder played for the Lakers last season and was a solid contributor, averaging 14.4 points per game in just over 29 minutes. However, he struggled in the playoffs and was openly questioned by a franchise legend. There were also some reported issues with one of the team’s star players. The hope would be that if Schroder returns as a backup, he would have fewer responsibilities and these might possibly be smaller issues.

Schroder was dealt by the Boston Celtics at the trade deadline for financial reasons. The Rockets have little use for him, so a buyout is a fairly strong possibility.
