Larry Nance Jr reveals his father’s advice for Dunk Contest

Larry Nance Jr

Larry Nance Jr will be competing in the Slam Dunk Contest on NBA All-Star Saturday Night, and he is more than happy to receive some guidance from his old man, who won the contest back in 1984.

In an interview with Marla Ridenour of the Akron Beacon Journal that was published over the weekend, the Cleveland Cavaliers forward-center revealed the advice that he got from father Larry Nance Sr for the Dunk Contest.

“Make the first one,” Junior says that Senior told him. “I don’t want to be that guy that’s out there missing.

“It’s fun to talk about, sit around the house with my fiancee,” the younger Nance added about the thought of following up his father’s victory with one of his own 34 years later. “Like, ‘How cool would it be, at home we have mine next to his, we’d be able to hold them up and take a picture?’ I’m just excited to get the opportunity to try.”

The elder Nance also played with the Cavs from 1988 to 1994, making two All-Star teams and three All-Defensive teams during his time there. We know of one further way that he wants his son to imitate him, but bringing home a second Dunk Contest trophy to the Nance household would be pretty cool too.
