The King may soon be taking up his court elsewhere.
The Los Angeles Lakers are “definitively” ready to move on from their superstar forward LeBron James, Bleacher Report’s Jake Fischer reported during a livestream on Monday. Fischer further adds that James also appears ready to move on and that the “foregone sentiment in Los Angeles right now” is that the two sides will be parting ways over the summer.
James, 41, is playing out his final season under contract with the Lakers at $52.6 million (after the team notably failed to offer him an extension over the offseason). He is averaging 21.9 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 6.6 assists per game overall this season through 31 appearances.
Though James managed to earn his record-extending 22nd career NBA All-Star appearance this season, his relationship with the Lakers seemingly continues to deteriorate. Previous reports suggested that James got his feelings hurt by the Lakers last summer, and one report from last month even claimed that Lakers governor Jeanie Buss had grown fed up with James’ behavior.
If James decides to continue his playing into a 24th season, he should have some good options to choose from. A few days ago, we learned that three teams other than the Lakers were interested in signing James for 2026-27.
Of course, there is also the possibility that James could part ways with the Lakers by simply retiring. The four-time NBA champion made some remarks over the weekend that added more fuel to the retirement speculation currently surrounding him.
