LeBron James: Looking ahead to Finals rematch ‘disrespectful to the rest of the league’

LeBron James doesn’t appear to have appreciated Iman Shumpert’s decision to fan the flames of the Cavaliers-Warriors rivalry.

On Thursday, James said he hasn’t given any thought to a possible Finals rematch with Golden State, and he thinks it would be silly and disrespectful to do so.

“To be completely honest, it’s not,” James said Thursday when asked if a rematch was on his mind, via Dave McMenamin of ESPN. “It would be selfish of me and foolish of me to think about playing the Warriors in another Finals. It would be disrespectful to my teammates, disrespectful to the rest of the league and disrespectful to the Warriors to even [entertain the thought].”

Shumpert clearly doesn’t feel the same way. James’s comments, though, are probably more on the mark. While the Cavs and Warriors are the favorites to win their respective conferences, we saw what happened last year when Golden State very nearly lost in the Western Conference Finals. It’s a long way off, and a lot could happen before June. Would the two sides like to face each other again? Probably. But both teams could tell you that all it takes is one bad series to throw it out the window.
