The juiciest rivalry in the NBA today just got another layer of intrigue.
In an interview with Karizza Sanchez of Complex, Cleveland Cavaliers swingman Iman Shumpert was asked about Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green’s recent trash talk regarding a potential NBA Finals rematch between the two sides and decided to respond with some digs of his own.
“We supposed to hate them, and they supposed to hate us,” Shumpert said. “It’s OK. They supposed to take cheap shots at us. They’re gonna hate us, fam. That’s what sports is. It’s great. I love every bit of it. I’m glad he said that ’cause we gon’ bust they ass, too. You need to type that up: We gon’ bust your ass. Period.”
Green had said in an interview last month that he wanted to “annihilate” the Cavs should the Warriors meet them in the Finals again this year. Of course, the two teams have faced off in the Finals each of the last two years, with Golden State emerging victorious the first time around and Cleveland returning the favor last season.
Both sides have taken some serious potshots at one another in recent months, so it’s safe to say that the allure surrounding a possible rubber match next June is starting to build to a crescendo.
