LeBron James shouts out writer Jeff Zillgitt who is recovering from surgery

LeBron James

LeBron James went above and beyond again when he sent a shout out to NBA reporter Jeff Zillgitt on Thursday, a day after the writer underwent surgery to remove a tumor from his colon.

Here is the tweet sent by the four-time league MVP:

Zillgitt covers the NBA for USA Today Sports. While covering the NBA playoffs this season, he began experiencing symptoms such as constant fatigue, pain in his calves, and sporadic chest pains. He went to the doctor, was referred to a gastroenterologist, and advised to undergo a colonoscopy. A cancerous tumor was found in his colon, so he set up surgery to remove it.

Zillgitt underwent the surgery Wednesday, and his wife says it was a success.

In a post on the blog where Zillgitt has been adding updates about his health, he wrote this:

There have been rough times. It hasn’t been easy. Frustration, disappointment, sadness, anger are all part of it, and a necessary part.

But it has certainly been easier and because of family and friends — everyone who called, liked a Facebook post, sent emails, private messages, texts, said a prayer, sent positive vibes, offered well wishes and provided support. The constant theme throughout this has been the caring and love I’ve felt from family and friends.

I have to imagine that getting a tweet of support from one of the most influential athletes in the world certainly will uplift his spirits. This just another example of how James separates himself and makes a difference.

And even though we do not know Zillgitt personally, all of us at LBS are wishing him our best.
