Malcolm Brogdon reportedly angry with Celtics
The Boston Celtics appear to have aggravated The President.
Gary Washburn of the Boston Globe reported this week on Malcolm Brodgon’s situation with Boston. In an appearance on CLNS Media’s “Celtics Beat” podcast, Washburn said that Brogdon is “angry” with the Celtics after a failed trade this offseason.
“He’s angry with the team,” said Washburn of Brogdon. “I don’t think that communication between the two sides has been fruitful … Malcolm Brogdon was not happy about the deal, being potentially dealt. He was pissed … I think he understands, but [it] doesn’t mean he’s not upset about it. I was told he was not happy with how things went down.”
The Celtics agreed to trade Brogdon, the reigning Sixth Man of the Year, to the LA Clippers as part of a three-team deal in June (with big man Kristaps Porzingis heading back to Boston). But that trade was jettisoned after the Clippers backed out due to a major health concern with Brogdon. The Celtics worked out a three-team deal with the Memphis Grizzlies in the Clippers’ place instead and still got Porzingis (albeit with Marcus Smart going off to Memphis). Meanwhile though, Brogdon is still on the Celtics roster months later, creating an awkward situation as training camp nears.
Brogdon had a stellar 14.9 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 3.7 assists per game in Boston last season. But even before the agreed-upon trade with the Clippers, there were strong rumors that the Celtics wanted to move on from Brogdon. It sounds like Brogdon knows exactly where he stands with the team and does not like it one bit.
