Malik Beasley’s message to Anthony Edwards resurfaces amid his gambling investigation

Fans have started to dig into Malik Beasley’s social media activity amid the gambling-related investigation into the Detroit Pistons guard.

On Sunday, a report from ESPN’s Shams Charania emerged implicating Beasley in an ongoing investigation being conducted by the US District Attorney’s Office. The allegations against Beasley involved “gambling related to NBA games and prop bets.”

Beasley, through his lawyer, issued a statement asserting his innocence until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. But that did not stop fans from already issuing a guilty verdict via the court of public opinion.

Fans unearthed various clips to try to pinpoint any example of Beasley potentially altering his play for the sake of a sports bet. One instance fans noticed was when Beasley went the full length of the floor for a seemingly inconsequential layup during the final seconds of a Minnesota Timberwolves-Los Angeles Clippers game in February 2021.

Beasley scored seven points over the game’s final 43 seconds. The last-second layup just so happened to cover the game’s spread for the Timberwolves.

A post from Beasley himself made in April also caught the attention of fans. Beasley publicly challenged former teammate Anthony Edwards to make seven threes during the Timberwolves’ season finale.

“Ant you gotta get 7 3s to beat me tonight,” Beasley posted with some side-eye emojis.

Beasley tallied what was then an NBA-best 319 threes after playing all 82 games for the Pistons this season. Edwards sat at 313 with just one game left on Minnesota’s schedule. The Timberwolves star hit exactly seven threes in the contest, taking a career-high 18 attempts from distance to do it.

While none of the circulating posts online prove anything, fans seem to believe the posts look much more suspicious than normal given the ongoing investigation.
