Mark Cuban wishes he had a do-over on his decision to sell the Dallas Mavericks.

Cuban admitted in a new episode of “Intersections: The Podcast” that he does not regret selling the Mavericks, but he does wish he had sold the team to a different owner.

“I don’t regret selling. I regret who I sold to,” Cuban said, via SportsNet. “I made a lot of mistakes in the process, and I’ll leave it at that.”

Cuban sold a majority share of the Mavericks to casino magnate Miriam Adelson in 2023. Patrick Dumont, Adelson’s son-in-law, took over day-to-day ownership of the franchise after Cuban left the frame. Neither Adelson nor Dumont had any experience in sports prior to the purchase. At the time of the transaction, Cuban was expected to retain control of basketball operations, but that proved not to be the case.

Cuban has had to watch from a distance as the franchise he sold has gone in a completely different direction. Dumont brought in Nico Harrison as his new GM, who infamously traded Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers in a trade Cuban openly disapproved of. The trade changed the fortunes of the franchise, which now sits at 24-50 and nowhere near the playoff race.

There have been rumors that Cuban was seeking to increase his involvement in ownership, but Adelson and Dumont have said they are not interested in selling. Cuban may still maintain some limited influence behind the scenes, but ultimately, he will have to live with the decision he made to give up power to someone he feels he shouldn’t have.
