Marvin Bagley: Talk about Deandre Ayton going first overall is ‘disrespectful’

Marvin Bagley

Former Duke star Marvin Bagley III thinks he’s being unjustly overlooked in the race to become the top overall pick in the NBA Draft.

With Arizona’s Deandre Ayton looking likely to go No. 1 to the Phoenix Suns, Bagley thinks he should be in that spot.

“Deandre, he’s going to do what he’s going to do. That’s his plan,” Bagley said, via ESPN and the Associated Press. “All I can do is control what I can control and do what I love to do and just show different teams what I’m capable of doing. I can’t really worry about what other people are doing at this point. This is an important time in my life right now, something I’ve been working toward my whole basketball career.

“It’s disrespectful and I use it as drive every single day,” Bagley added when asked about talk of Ayton going first. “At the end of the day, this is all talk right now. Eventually we’ll have to go on the court and we’ll have to play. That’s where all the talking ends.”

Bagley’s problem? Ayton is already acting and talking like he has assurances that he’ll be going first overall. Bagley may have to play with a chip on his shoulder.
