Report: Matt Barnes suspended two games for fight with Derek Fisher
Matt Barnes has reportedly been suspended for his role in a physical altercation that took place with Knicks coach Derek Fisher back in October.
Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports reports that the league has decided to suspend Barnes for two games after Barnes drove to the home of his estranged wife and confronted Fisher.
Gloria Govan, the mother of Barnes’ children, had reportedly been dating Fisher for a few months when Barnes drove to Govan’s home in Los Angeles and started a fight with his former teammate. Witnesses claimed Barnes physically assaulted Fisher to the point where one of Matt’s children had to step in.
Perhaps knowing that he would eventually be disciplined by the NBA, Barnes said last month that he was disappointed with the way Fisher handled the fight and that he should never have gone to the police and the league. Those comments came roughly a week after fans taunted Barnes over the fight, which you can see in this video.
In reality, Barnes has no one to blame but himself. There’s no justifying what he did, and he deserves to be suspended for it and is fortunate to not face charges.
