Bibby has strong ties to the city of Sacramento. The 14-year NBA veteran is best known for his stint with the Kings. He spent seven seasons as the team’s starting point guard, averaging 17.6 points and 5.4 assists across 476 career games with the franchise.
While he never made an All-Star team, Bibby made a name for himself as a standout playoff performer for Sacramento. He was the starting point guard on a 2001-02 Kings team that came a Robert Horry three-pointer shy of making the NBA Finals. During that year’s infamous Western Conference Finals between the Kings and Los Angeles Lakers, Bibby averaged 22.7 points and 4.4 assists as the second star next to Chris Webber.
The Sacramento State job will be Bibby’s first big break as a coach. He has experience coaching his son, Michael Jr., at the high school level. Mike also had a brief stint as the head coach of Hillcrest Prep located in Phoenix, Ariz.
