Nets fans recruit Kawhi Leonard with chant during game
Brooklyn Nets fans are doing their best to recruit Kawhi Leonard to the team.
During Friday night’s game between the Nets and Toronto Raptors, Brooklyn fans were directing chants aimed at Kawhi Leonard. The first chant was “Uncle Dennis,” which was for Kawhi’s uncle, who has a strong relationship with Nets GM Sean Marks.
The second chant was “we have cap space,” which seems to be a pretty straightforward pitch.
Leonard has a $21 million player option for next season that he is likely to decline. He can become a free agent and choose to sign wherever he pleases.
The Raptors took a risk by trading for him over the offseason, but the move is paying off so far — they have the best record in the Eastern Conference. Perhaps the team’s success this season will convince Leonard to remain in Toronto, much to the disappointment of Nets fans. Toronto fans already seem to love Leonard.
