If the Philadelphia 76ers are serious about acquiring James Harden at the trade deadline, it may cost them at least one specific player.
Bill Simmons of The Ringer reported this week on his self-titled podcast that the Nets are indeed open to trading Harden to the Sixers but that the Nets would need guard Seth Curry in return.
“So here’s what I heard,” said Simmons. “This is from the same source that has given me some good info over the past couple weeks. Brooklyn is open to it, but Curry has to be in the deal.”
The report makes sense since Curry would really help the Nets. He is having a career year in Philadelphia, averaging 15.3 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 4.1 assists per game. As an elite three-point shooter, Curry would also fill a big need for Brooklyn, a team with few long-range snipers, especially amid the continued injury absence of Joe Harris.
With just days before the Feb. 10 trade deadline, the Nets definitely seem to be weighing the possibility of moving Harden, who can become a free agent this summer. Including Curry in the deal rather than a younger player like Tyrese Maxey or Matisse Thybulle would likely be preferable for the Sixers. It would also ensure that Brooklyn gets a fairly adequate return for Harden with both Curry and Ben Simmons potentially arriving.
