Pau Gasol remained with the San Antonio Spurs through the trade deadline, but that apparently was not his preferred choice.
News 4 San Antonio’s Jeff Garcia relayed a recent report from ESPN Deportes revealing that the veteran big requested a trade from San Antonio. The Spurs could not find a deal however, leaving Gasol to finish out the year with them.
The six-time All-Star is having a horrendous season in San Antonio, averaging just 4.4 points in 12.5 minutes per game (both career-low marks by far). Gasol also missed 26 games with a foot injury and will soon be 39. He is still signed for $16 million next year as well, all of which would explain the ostensible lack of interest in him.
The failed trade request now adds to what’s been a rough few months for Pau.
