Peyton Watson looks increasingly likely to depart the Denver Nuggets, with one team emerging as a favorite to acquire him in a sign-and-trade deal.
The Milwaukee Bucks are viewed as Watson’s most likely destination in a potential sign-and-trade, according to Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints. The Bucks have both the role to accommodate Watson and a $25.4 million trade exception via the trade of Giannis Antetokounmpo to the Miami Heat earlier this summer.
While the Bucks do have interest in Watson, other reports indicate they have yet to offer a first-round pick to the Nuggets to acquire him.
The Bucks were first linked to Watson about a month ago. The Nuggets want to keep him and have offered him a four-year deal to stay, but he is looking for more than $25 million per year and may take some bold steps to try and either get it or get to free agency as quickly as possible. The Nuggets are also over the second salary cap apron, further complicating their situation.
Watson broke out for the Nuggets at the start of the calendar year with the team ravaged by injuries. Across 15 games in January, Watson averaged 21.9 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 3.0 assists per game and even earned Player of the Week honors for the first time in his career.
