Pistons hold players-led meeting after third rout in four games

The Detroit Pistons are in a free fall, and they’re turning inwards in an attempt to stop the bleeding.

According to a report by Vince Ellis of the Detroit Free Press on Sunday, the Pistons held a players-led meeting after Saturday’s 105-90 loss to the Indiana Pacers, their third double-digit defeat in the last four games.

“I did a lot of the talking,” said Pistons forward Marcus Morris. “I said at the end of the meeting that we have to make a decision. Everybody go home tonight and decide on what you want to do. Do you want to be a winning team or do you want to continue to get embarrassed? Are you going to play for the next man beside you or are you going to play for yourself?”

The Pistons are now 14-15 on the year, and those recent losses have included a 14-point defeat to the middling Washington Wizards and an 18-point drubbing at the hands of the lowly Philadelphia 76ers. Detroit has struggled to reintegrate starting point guard Reggie Jackson after Jackson missed the first month-and-a-half of the season with knee tendinitis. Several of their younger players have also been disappointing, for one reason or another.

The schedule doesn’t get any easier from here with games against Memphis, Golden State, and Cleveland in the next week alone, so the Pistons will have to dig deep if they hope to remain competitive in the Eastern Conference.
