Dan Hurley is said to be contemplating whether he wants to become the next head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers, but one reporter does not see it happening.

KTLA sports anchor David Pingalore said on Saturday night that his NBA sources do not think Hurley will end up taking the Lakers job. Pingalore also said that JJ Redick is still the most likely candidate to become the new head coach in L.A.

“My NBA sources say they do not think Hurley would actually take the offer if there is one. Reddick is kind of still their guy,” Pingalore said.

Pingalore went on to say that he believes the decision will come down to whether Hurley’s wife Andrea is willing to move to the West Coast.

That wasn’t exactly a report from Pingalore. It was more him sharing the opinion of his NBA sources, whomever they may be. The reason many people found the report noteworthy is that Pingalore has been reliable with some major Los Angeles basketball news in the past. He was one of the first to report that Kawhi Leonard was signing with the Clippers back in 2019. He also had good information on LeBron James joining the Lakers in 2018.

It should be noted, however, that Pingalore missed with one huge scoop he provided during the NBA regular season.

Many have wondered if Hurley is using the Lakers to get more money from UConn, and that might be the case. Hurley has won back-to-back national championships with the Huskies and is not among the top-five highest-paid coaches in college basketball. It seems like he could be headed for a significant raise if he does remain in Storrs.
