Rick Carlisle had awesome wardrobe choice for Nowitzki street naming ceremony
The Mavericks and the city of Dallas honored Dirk Nowitzki on Wednesday in a ceremony that saw a portion of a street that runs alongside American Airlines Center renamed Nowitzki Way. That brought all the luminaries out, but none of them had a better story than Rick Carlisle.
Carlisle, the longtime head coach of the Mavericks, had a rather appropriate choice of suit — the same one he wore when Nowitzki led the Mavericks to the 2011 NBA title, which has never been cleaned.
Rick Carlisle wearing the suit he wore on June 12, 2011, the night Mavs won title. Had’t worn it since, never cleaned, champagne-soaked. Lucky penny he found on street that day still in pants pocket.
“I always knew there would be an appropriate day to wear it again.”

Nowitzki admitted that having a street named after him was a little bit embarrassing. The tributes probably didn’t help, as Nowitzki is a humble guy. But Carlisle wearing a champagne-soaked suit that hasn’t been cleaned for eight years? Now that’s dedication. Nowitzki should be proud of that.
