The Boston Celtics have made a new commitment to the son of a five-time NBA champion just before the start of the 2025-26 season.
Ron Harper Jr. signed a two-way contract with the Celtics son Thursday, his agent told ESPN’s Shams Charania. The former Rutgers star spent time with Boston’s G League affiliate last year before signing a two-way contract with the Detroit Pistons.
Harper made 11 three-pointers in a G League game with the Motor City Cruise, the Pistons’ G League affiliate, back in February. That shattered the previous team record of seven. Harper averaged 22.8 points across four games with Maine last season.
Harper first rejoined the Celtics in September. He has been impressive during the preseason and shot 42.9 percent from three-point range in three games, which helped him earn the two-way contract from Boston.
Harper’s father, Ron Harper, was a defensive specialist who started on the Chicago Bulls team that won three consecutive NBA titles from 1996-98. He then won two more NBA titles with the Los Angeles Lakers in 2000 and 2001.
Harper Jr. went undrafted in 2022 after a four-year college career with Rutgers. He first signed with the Toronto Raptors and spent a year with them in 2022-23 before being waived.
In total, Harper has appeared in just 11 NBA games across three seasons. He may now have an opportunity to play in some more with the Celtics.
