Anthony Davis has become some sort of a forgotten man in the 2025-26 NBA season. Even Davis’ former Los Angeles Lakers teammate Rui Hachimura lost track of his recent journey in the league.
Davis, who is now with the Washington Wizards, did not suit up for Monday’s game against the Lakers at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, Calif., as he continues to deal with a hand injury. When Hachimura spotted him on Washington’s bench, the Lakers forward probably thought he was seeing an apparition.
“I was looking at the bench and then I saw AD and I was shocked. I was like, wait, I totally forgot about it, you know, so I went to say hi to him,” Hachimura said in the postgame press conference, via Daniel Starkand of Laker Nation.
Hachimura might have assumed that Davis was still with the Dallas Mavericks, who acquired the former Kentucky Wildcats star in the shocking trade that sent Luka Doncic to Los Angeles in February 2025.
Davis appeared in only 29 games for the Mavs before Dallas sent him to the Wizards prior to this year’s February trade deadline. Since Davis has yet to see action on the court with Washington, no one, including Hachimura, has a memory of Davis in a Wizards jersey during an NBA game.
As for the game, the Lakers crushed Washington, 120-101, despite missing Luka Doncic, who served a one-game suspension.
Hachimura finished the game with 14 points on 6/10 shooting with 6 rebounds in 26 minutes.
